The weather in Los Angeles varies because of how large the city is but it’s generally pleasant. That perpetually nice weather means it’s always a good time to go for a swim or to sunbathe by a pool. Dive into these 14 amazing hotel pools to make the most of Los Angeles’ nearly endless summer.

Hollywood Roosevelt

Swim laps over priceless pop art, which David Hockney painted with a mop and blue paint in 1988 and was painstakingly restored in 2019. That underwater mural wasn’t Tropicana Pool’s only brush with fame. A bikini-clad Marilyn Monroe posed under its 230 palm trees in the ‘50s. Seasonal programming includes pop-up vintage shops, movie screenings, yoga classes on the bridge, and DJ parties.

Terranea Resort

Why settle for one saltwater pool with ocean views when you can have four? The Palos Verdes Peninsula resort’s main pool has lawn games and a 140-foot waterslide. Another is teaming with teens. Two are reserved for adults only including Cielo Point, which transforms into a den of dancing on Saturdays and Sundays with bottle service, live entertainment, and star-gazing. Everyone’s invited although guests pay a lower cover.

SLS Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Beverly Hills

The life aquatic at this top-shelf hotel is in the hands of designer Philippe Starck, who added whimsical social media moments like a life-size pig sculpture in the shallow end and oversized frames through which sunbathers can peep. Chef José Andrés, brings inventive Spanish fare — including ceviche, octopus tacos, and croquetas — to the Altitude pool. Anyone can sip wine and hold high tea under a pink chandelier in the newest addition, Rosé Cabana.

The Beverly Wilshire

Live the sweet life at this Mediterranean-style oasis modeled after the pool at Sophia Loren’s private villa in Italy. Take a break from the busy Wilshire Boulevard to soak in the big whirlpool bath while eating lemon ricotta pancakes in peace. Attendants circle hourly to dole out fruit skewers, chocolate-covered strawberries, and sunglasses cleanings. Fuchsia bougainvillea pops against turquoise tiled daybed alcoves. Cabanas, which come with a bottle of bubbly, and daybeds can be rented by non-guests. Pool use also comes complimentary with 60 minute-plus spa treatment purchases.

Marina del Rey Hotel

Hop aboard a giant inflatable pelican and gaze up at palm trees or out at extravagant yachts and lazy sea lions in North America’s largest manmade harbor from the heated infinity pool. Weekly sunset parties with live bands and craft cocktails happen all summer as do 21-and-over Sunday Funday DJ events. The parties are free for guests; $5 for anyone else.
